Social Service Analysis
Dr. Cabot was shocked with what was happening with the healthcare; in 1905, he established the first in-hospital social service department at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), with Ida Maud Cannon as one of the first social workers. The in-hospital social service department at MGH helped patients in their communities. Dr. Cabot transformed therapy by addressing economic, social, and psychological issues that were factors affecting the patient’s health. He expanded his idea of advocating for patients into what is known as medical social work today. Dr. Cabot saw social workers working close with doctors, healing patients body and mind; he believed that social work as a “near-equal partner to physician care” (Dodds, 419).
He also believed that medical social work would advocate for public health safety in the communities and create an individualized case review for very patient, which would improve the patient’s health and help make society better. He lobbied for preventive medicine and created the clinical-pathologic conference which is the model used to evaluate cases in order to find errors. Medical social work practice soon began to spread to other hospitals throughout the United States.
Dr. Cabot wrote largely on medical ethics. His mission was supported by the assistance of other individuals. For instance, Ida Cannon who promote his work by recruiting volunteer social work role in hospital and the presence of the social perspective as a regular part of the medical treatment plan.
Richard Cabot was instrumental in adding social workers to his clinic staff at Massachusetts General Hospital. Under the direction of their first department head, Ida Cannon, these social workers helped patients and their families cope with illness, disease, disability, and hospitalization by focusing particularly on their psychosocial needs, including their emotional reaction and adaptation.

Social Problem
Dr. Cabot saw the need to do more for each patient to ensure they were doing more than just coming to see the Dr., getting medicine, then basically going home to die
